Svetlana M. Doyle

April 5, 1957 — September 16, 2008

Svetlana Doyle passed away at UW Hospital on September 16, 2008. She was born on April 5, 1957 in Severdinsk, Russia to Tatiana and Michail Novojhilova.   On October 13, 1995, she married Dr. John F. Doyle and made her home in Madison. For the last fourteen years, they have worked with Prime Kare Kazahkstan, a humanitarian program that provides primary medical and dental care to pregnant women and children in Kazahkstan. They enjoyed a special bond with the Kazahstan Ministry of Health, especially Erkin Durumbetov, whose support was essential to the program.   Svetlana was a champion bi-athlete in Northern Russia. She was a draftsman for the Russian Navy, working on diesel and atomic submarines. She was proud to earn her American citizenship, but she remained true to her Russian heritage and traditions. In spite of English being her second language, she could interact with everyone no matter what language they spoke.   She loved becoming a part of John's large, Irish family. She loved to entertain, especially at Christmas. They always had a houseful for their annual Christmas Eve parties and were happy to make room for ""one more"" at the dinner table. Svetlana had an outgoing, spirited personality that drew people to her. She made all around her laugh without even trying. She could energize a room of friends and strangers alike. She and John had many international friends and they welcomed them into their home. Her love of people and friends was strong and obvious in the number and intensity of her friendships. She loved to dress up and changed her hairstyle frequently, such that she had to buy two different colored wigs for her chemotherapy. She was very proud of her daughters and was a dedicated mother, wife and friend whose legacy will be based on those left behind.   She was preceded in death by her father, Michail and her brother, Alexander. She is survived by her husband Dr. John F. Doyle, her mother, Tatiana, her three daughters Nadia (Dimitri) Kloster, Eulia and Luda Kazachenko, her two granddaughters Eulia and Alina Kloster and many relatives in Russia.   She is further survived by John's children: Regina (Matthew) McGinn, Anne (David) Goodrich and family, Mary (Thomas) Curtin and family, John (Leigh) Doyle and family, Kathryn Doyle and many other Doyle relatives.   Svetlana's family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel Mulkerin, Dr. Joshua Lang, the UW nursing staff on B66, the UW Department of Surgery, Dr. and Mrs. Rikkers, and Dr. and Mrs. Bentz. A special thank you to Svetlana's dear friends, Julia Krichevsky and Svetlana Frantskevich.   A celebration of Svetlana's life is planned for Tuesday, September 23, 2008, 5-8pm at the Ellen and Peter Johnson Residence Center at HospiceCare,   5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the GI Cancer Program at the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center, 600 Highland Ave., K4/658   Madison, WI  or HospiceCare Inc. 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Madison, WI   53711
