Madison - Sylvia McLean Saecker, age 94, died on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Wynwood West in Madison. She was born on March 5, 1915 to William and Elizabeth (Logan) McLean in Constantine, Michigan.
Sylvia was united in marriage to William Ziebell Saecker on June 15, 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1985. Sylvia attended the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and worked as an administrative assistant for the UW - Madison. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Madison and Order of the Eastern Star. In 1989, Sylvia married Gerald DePorter.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Gerald DePorter of Madison; daughter, Julie Saecker Schneider of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Kirsten Schneider of Austin, Texas, Nicolas William Schneider of New York City, New York and great-grand-daughter Kristina Marie Haverkamp Schneider of Austin, Texas; and her brother, Robert McLean of Hartford. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Ziebell Saecker; and siblings, Logan McLean, Menzie McLean and Thomas McLean of Whitewater, Scott McLean, Margaret Flood Gates and Agnes Hegge of Janesville, Arden McLean of Racine, Iva McLean Shish of Norfolk, Virginia, and Christine Metcalf of San Antonio, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison with Chaplain Stephen J. Zwettler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Sylvia's name to the UW Whitewater Foundation, McLean Family Endowment, 800 West Main Street, Whitewater WI 53190.
