Sun Prairie -- Sylvia Tackowiak, age 90, having entered eternal life on Monday, July 19, 2010, wishes to thank God for her first day on earth, March 2, 1920, and her late parents Mary Ann and Valentine, who offered seven brothers and sisters, the gift of life and habits of love and compassion. Her academic life skills began at Mercy High School and developed at the College of St. Scholastica, Marquette and Notre Dame Universities, and the Convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph. With a Masters of Arts in English Literature, Sylvia taught the art of communication and appreciation of literature and life for forty-five years in Wisconsin, Michigan and Connecticut. From students she learned trust, patience, love and respect along the journey. She was much loved by her students and their continuing friendship and concern gave her tremendous joy. She retired from the University of Bridgeport in 1988 with rank of Professor Emeritus.
Sylvia deeply appreciated the love and concern of her friend, Maxine Skalski; her sisters, Mary Ann (Dominick) Calabresa, Louise Burzynski, Madge (Edward) Canning and Bernadine Knocke; her nieces and nephews who pampered their old aunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Gene and Val, and brothers-in-law,
Arthur and James. With fond reflection I recall dear colleagues and friends who at one time or another walked this sacred pilgrimage beside me. Thank you all.
