WAUNAKEE – Teresa A. Carey, age 91, died on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the Azalea Place Assisted Living Home in Great Falls, Montana. She was born on August 1, 1932, to Stanley and Martha (Kubicek) Buryska in Owatonna, Minnesota. Teresa married Donald W. Carey on August 1, 1953, at Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna.
Teresa was preceded in death by her loving husband Donald, her son Kevin, and siblings Sylvester, Robert, Betty (Schaeffer), and Sr. Eileen Buryska. She is survived by her brother David, and five sons: Daniel, Mike (JoAnn), Patrick (Joan), Myles (Sean), and Chris (Karena), as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Teresa was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee from 1973 to 2013. She was an enthusiastic golfer, bowler, and bridge player and during her retirement years spent much of her time at the Waunakee Senior Center where she made many friends. During her retirement she became an enthusiastic traveler, visiting the Middle East, China, Europe, Washington, and Colorado, where she climbed several mountains above 12,000 feet. In 2017, she moved to the Seattle area to live with her son Mike and his wife JoAnn and to be near her sons Dan and Myles and daughter-in-law, Sean. She later lived at the “A Well Cared Adult Family Home” in Algona, Washington, where she was cared for by the loving staff. Her home for the last month of her life was at Azalea Place Assisted Living Home in Great Falls.
Terry was a woman gifted by God with a sweet and kindly nature. She never lost her temper, even when her sons set off firecrackers in a closed garage or dropped the family cat down a laundry chute (onto a soft cushion of clothes) to see if it would land on its feet. She was generous with her time and her talents in knitting and sewing Christmas ornaments and stockings for her children and grandchildren. In Terry, God created the perfect model of The Good Woman - a light to all who knew her and blessing in their lives.
A funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, June 10th, at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209m South St Waunakee at 2:00 pm with visitation prior starting at 1:00 pm. Fr. Simon Tipps will officiate. Burial services will take place in the church cemetery immediately after the conclusion of the mass. Memorials can be written for the needs of the St. Maximilian Kolbe pastorate.
