Madison - Thelma M. Cox, age 94, died peacefully Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Waunakee Manor. She was born in Stoughton on May 28, 1921 to the late Thorris and Anna Hofland. Thelma graduated from West High School and soon after married her high school sweetheart, Edward "Mike" Cox. She was an excellent homemaker, raising three children while Mike worked. Thelma was a great cook, loved to sew, enjoyed playing cards, and loved her Madison neighborhood. She was very involved in the community, volunteering with St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, Foresters, and Catholic Women's Society. When her kids were older, Thelma worked outside of the home.
Survivors include her three children; Judy (Tom Speranza) O'Leary, Mike (Jackie) Cox, Susan (Michael) Eagan, special friend, Tim Eagan, seven grandchildren; Patrick, Dan, Mike, Kathy, Christy, Michelle, Marni, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, other relatives and friends.
Thelma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Mike Cox, an infant granddaughter, her grandson Ryan, and her brother Eugene Hofland.
Friends may join the family for a visitation at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 South Owen Drive, Madison on Thursday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m., Msgr. Ken Fiedler presiding. Thelma will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Waunakee Manor for their almost 18 years of loving care of Thelma.
