Deerfield- Theressa Gyland Brown, age 91, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Parkside Assisted Living in DeForest. She was born on the family farm in Deerfield on June 7, 1920, the fourth of ten children to Gust and Gusta (Rustad) Gyland. Terry graduated from Deerfield High School and from the secretarial course at MATC. She worked as a secretary for the Wisconsin Farm Bureau and Gisholt Machine Company, and later as a school secretary at Randall Elementary and Madison West High School. Terry married William Herbert Brown, Jr. on the Gyland family farm on June 7, 1942. Together they operated the Brown family farm for many years and raised their four children there. Terry loved to draw, perform with her sisters and brothers, do needlework, take pictures and above all spend time with her family. Bill and Terry enjoyed travelling, especially bus trips and abroad. She was an active member of Deerfield Lutheran Church. Terry is survived by her four children, Venice (Alan) Beske of Hawk Springs, Wyoming, Marjorie (Rick) Faherty of Madison, Nathan (Joyce) Brown of Marshall and Christine (Don) Grefe of DeForest; seven grandchildren, Brendan (Angela), Megan and Corey Faherty, Alisa Brown and Forest, Clifton and Weston Grefe; two great grandchildren, Adelae and Lewis Faherty; sister, Evelyn (Melvin) Hubred; brother, Percy (Ardis) Gyland; sisters-in-law, Janet Gyland and Lois Brown; brother-in-law, Jerold (Eunice) Brown; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; brother, Howard; sisters, Marie (Ed) Schultz, Katherine (Glen) Quam, Belle Kalland, Gladys Gyland, Dorothy (Olaf) Haugen and Geneva (Gordon) Peterson; and brother-in-law, Robert Brown. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 S. Main Street, Deerfield, with Rev. Larry Sexe officiating. Burial will follow at Cottage Grove Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the church and from 10:00 AM until the time of services Saturday at the church. The family suggests memorials be made in Terry's name to Deerfield Lutheran Church Elevator and Automatic Door Fund or to the charity of the donors choice. A special thank you to the staff of Parkside Assisted Living for the loving care they gave Mom during her years there.
