Poynette - Thomas Lee Schmudlach, age 65, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital after a 12 year courageous battle with cancer.
Thomas was born on May 6, 1946 in Madison, the son of William and Viola (Whitney) Schmudlach. He graduated from Monona Grove High School and MATC and married Florence Munson on November 19, 1967 in Sun Prairie.
Thomas worked for over 30 years at Oscar Mayer in Madison before his retirement in 1998. He later worked for the McKenzie Center as a caretaker.
Thomas enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a 3rd degree black belt in karate and was an avid Harley Davidson rider.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; two daughters, Kimberly and Dawn Schmudlach; 6 grandchildren, Barbara Carpenter, Nicole Holford, Rachel Gensmer, Dustin Schmudlach, Derrick Schmudlach Anderson and Teaghen Schmudlach Anderson; one great granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Carpenter; one brother, Donald (Ruby) Schmudlach; one sister, Wilma Lucas and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola; 5 brothers, Leslie, Robert, Harold, Kenneth and Wayne and three sisters, Irma, Nona and Floy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 8317 Elderberry Rd., Madison, Wisconsin 53717.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Dekorra Lutheran Church, N3099 Smith Road, Poynette, WI. Interim Pastor Scott Ralston will officiate. A visitation will take place at the Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Ave. Madison on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and also at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of funeral. Burial will conclude at the Hillside Cemetery in Poynette.
