Tod Fredericks

Tod entered into full communion with the Holy Trinity through His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 12, 2022.

Tod Haskin Fredericks was born in Milwaukee WI on June 22, 1943 to Leslie W. Fredericks and Margaret C. (Haskin) Fredericks.  His family moved to Brookfield WI where he attended a one room school and then Brookfield High School.  He graduated from Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, worked as a commercial artist, and then enlisted in the US Army and served in Germany.  Shortly after he enrolled at the UW-Madison and obtained an art education degree.  There he was able to indulge in a life-long love of Badger athletics, and met his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Bennett) at a football game.  They were married on May 17, 1973.  After graduating he pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree.  He then continued work as a commercial artist, starting his own business in 1983, and then began a series of oil paintings depicting the African-American experience as soldiers in the Civil War and during Reconstruction which were lithographed as fine art prints and sold nationally.  In addition, he provided unfailing support to his wife Nancy during her training in and practice of medicine.  Tod’s love of history and his enthusiasm for Badger sports and Brewer’s baseball continued to the end of his life.  He read a variety of topics and always enjoyed a spirited discussion with friends and family.  Conversations with Tod, his wit and his companionship will be greatly missed.

Tod was preceded in death by his parents.  His is survived by his wife Nancy of Madison WI, a brother Jay Fredericks (Mary) of Dover AR, a brother-in-law Mike Bennett of Bay City WI, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Rick Heilman at ST. MARY’S OF PINE BLUFF, 3673 County Road P, Cross Plains at 11:00 AM Friday August 19. A graveside service of committal will be held in Ellsworth WI at 1:30 PM Friday August 26.
