Madison , Wis. -- Tony Lazewski, age 62, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at HospiceCare with his family by his side following a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born December 30, 19 46 in Antigo, Wisconsin , the son of Barney and Doris (Marx) Lazewski. Â Tony graduated from Antigo High School and then obtained a bachelor of English and Geography from the University of Wisconsin -- Stevens Point . Â He then went on to receive a PhD in Geography from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign . Â In 1977 Tony was united in marriage to Barbara Hassler in St. Louis , MO. For 25 years, taking no sick days, Tony worked for American Family Insurance as a property adjuster. Â He is also a former employee of the State Historical Society and in more recent years, a dedicated volunteer. Tony's passion was his family and being active in Boy Scouts. Â He was a proud Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver award recipient and Order of the Arrow Lodge Advisor. Â Tony was a great athlete and played hockey for 30 years. Â He was a humble and loyal man, who always obeyed the Scout Law. Â Â At all times, you could find Tony with a contagious smile and count on him to be a great listener. Most of all, Tony was the heart and soul of his family. Â Â He was a wonderful husband, father and son and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Tony was survived by his wife of 32 years; Barbara (nee Hassler), two daughters; Laura and Lisa, and father; Barney. Â He was preceded in death by his mother; Doris (nee Marx) Lazewski. Â A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. Â MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH , 10 Maria Place , on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Michael Burke officiating. Â A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Â A memorial fund will be established in memory of Tony to the Wisconsin Boy Scouts, for the organization he loved so much.
