Toshio Saiki

MADISON - Toshio Saiki died at Agrace Hospice Care on August 31st, 2013.
He was born in Honolulu Hawaii, on July 19, 1922, the second eldest of eight siblings to Mr. & Mrs. Tokuzuchi Saiki.
He graduated from McKinley High School, Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1940, and attended The University of Southern California School of Pharmacy until the outbreak of World War II.
Toshio volunteered for the U.S. Army in January 1944 and was with the Military Intelligence Service, assigned to the China, Burma, and India War Theatres, and later to occupied Japan.
After his discharge in June of 1946, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin and received his pharmacy degree in 1948. He married Jeanne Kawamura of Honolulu Hawaii on January 13, 1951. He worked at Prescription Pharmacy Incorporated for forty years until his retirement. In some of those years he was a dedicated supervisor of University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy interns.
During his retirement years he enjoyed playing golf, grew roses, read and was a master at the Weber Grill. The neighbors looked forward to "Mr. Saiki's teriyaki chicken" at the annual 4th of July block party.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lester, Raymond, Masato, Yoshiro, and Ernest and his beloved dogs Candy and Beau. He is survived by his loving wife, 1 brother in Los Angeles, 1 sister in Pearl City, Hawaii, 1 son and daughter in law in Madison, 1 son in San Clemente, CA, and 1 daughter in San Leandro, CA.
He was quiet, gentle, kind and ethical to all, professionally, socially, and as a proud parent and loving husband. He avoided lavish ceremonies.
