Trygve B. ""Trig"" Benson

Stoughton- Trygve B. ""Trig"" Benson, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.

He was born in Stoughton on March 7, 1919, the son of Norwegian (Flekkefjord) immigrants Herman and Inger (Torkelson) Benson. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1937.

Trygve served in World War II from 1943-1945 as Sergeant Technician T5 in the Army-Transportation Corps Amphibious Engineers, serving at Antwerp, Belgium and France. His division was in the third wave of troops to reach Utah Beach in Normandy on D-Day.

Trygve was united in marriage to Lila June Lathrop on June 11, 1955 and they spent 55 years together.

He worked at Highway-Dorsey Trailers in Stoughton and Edgerton for 42 years. Upon his retirement, Trygve worked for U&S Furniture & Floor Coverings and was the custodian for LakeView Church, where he was a longtime member. Trygve later was employed by the Stoughton Public Library for 14 years, retiring at age 81.

Trig loved and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. They have precious memories of numerous outings and activities with him. Trig was a relentless Packer fan. He enjoyed gardening and displayed a magnificent array of red geraniums which he lovingly shared with others. Trig enjoyed traveling and his four trips to Norway to visit his cousins.

He is survived by his four children, Lois (Tom) Fosdal of Stoughton, Barb (Phil) Peterson of St. Paul, MN, Steve (Lori) of Colorado Springs, CO and Nancy (Jim) Loehr of Oregon; nine grandchildren, Erin, Sara, Emily, Luke and Caleb Benson, Michelle and Katie Loehr, and Erik and Elisa Peterson; sister, Millie Krueger; and nieces, nephew and cousins in Norway.

Trig was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lila; and brother, Bennie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at LAKEVIEW CHURCH, 2200 Lincoln Avenue, Stoughton. Burial, with full Military Honors, will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon at church immediately following the burial. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. or to LakeView Church.

The family extends their deep appreciation to Alaina Thompson R.N., HospiceCare Inc., Oregon Manor, and Dr. Douglas Kutz, for their care of Trig.
