Tung-Ting "Tony" Liang passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the age of 95. Born in Beijing, China, he moved to Taipei, Taiwan in 1948. While working at the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, he established the first pesticide laboratory to implement environmental toxicology standards. He moved to Madison, WI in 1967 to further his research at the University of Wisconsin, Department of Entomology, and upon retirement in 1985, was invited by the Foreign Expert Bureau in China to serve as an Emeritus Professor at the Beijing Agricultural University and Plant Protection Institute to share his expertise in pesticide safety and regulation. In addition to his interest in Chinese history and art, he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and painting. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mei-Ying Chen Liang; daughters, Sara Liang Wu and Shu-Chi Liang (Jay Ralph); and granddaughters, En-Ling Wu and Kathleen Ralph. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6 2017 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 110 N. Whitney Way, Madison, WI 53705; 10:00 a.m. visitation, 11:00 a.m. service, followed by burial. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Agrace Hospice Care team for their compassion and guidance through our journey. Memorials may be made to the Agrace Foundation.
