Middleton - Twila Marie (Rowe) Nolen, age 90, passed away on July 14, 2020. Twila was born on October 27, 1929, in Dodgeville, WI, to Elmer and Dorothy (Motley) Rowe. She attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Dodgeville High School and later attended Madison Area Technical College. Twila married Dwight Lee Nolen of Ridgeway on December 16, 1947.
Twila worked for the Ridgeway Lumber & Fuel Company; the family owned business Hi Point Restaurant and tavern; at several Madison area supper clubs (The Cuba Club, Simon House, Rhode's Steak House, and The Pines Steak House); at Dane County (Clerk's Office, Personnel Office, Clerk of Courts Office and Badger Prairie). Twila retired from Dane County after 27 years.
Twila was an active member in many local organizations (The Restaurant Association, Professional Secretaries International, Information Processing Association, Madison Civics Club, Woman's Club of Madison, KAYRA, ESBMA, and Ladies Auxiliary of Madison Elks 410). Twila was proud of her time with the Elks, where she was the 1st female member to serve on the Wisconsin State Board of Elks and was one of the organizers of Wawbeek Day Camp.
Twila enjoyed meeting people, attending theater performances, reading mystery novels, playing cards and games, bingo, and critiquing restaurants. Twila loved to cook, making cookies, bars and decorating many beautiful cakes. She was proud of her Cornwall, England heritage making pasty and other Cornish dishes. She enjoyed watching Badger & Packer games. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Twila is survived by her children; Terry (Pat) Nolen of Verona and Cindy (Toby) Hull of Madison; her grandchildren; Christopher Nolen, JoMarie (Ed) Vendrell, Justin Nolen, Toby Hull, David Hull, Michael Hull, Casey (Rachel) Hulbott, Dean (Sheila) Gehrman; her great grandchildren; Kiarra (Blake) Crowell, Maleia Vendrell-Nolen, Cianna Vendrell-Nolen, Sadie Nolen, Logan Ladd-Hull, Mary Hull, Charlie Hull, Dylan Hull, Calley Hull, Ashlee Malin, Tristan Hull, Ione Hulbott, Azura Hulbott; Steele Gehrman, Kittiara Gehrman, Ireland Gehrman, Riot Gehrman; Extended family; Diane Gehrman-Wollet, Alan Gehrman, Adam (Dana) Gehrman, Tim (Lynn) Gehrman, Jason (Peggy) Gehrman, and Tim (Xanthe) Gehrman and Nicole; and sister-in-law, Audrey Wagner.
Twila was preceded in death by her husband (Dwight) of 47 years, a son (Charles Dean), a daughter (Mary Frances), her parents, a brother, Charles Motley, and many in-laws.
The family would like to thank Ingleside Communities and Agrace Hospice for Twila’s care.
Twila will be cremated and privately interred per her request.
