Madison, Wisconsin - Mrs. Val Henry, 86, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 peacefully at Clare Bridge of Middleton.

Born on May 30, 1926, in Lynbrook (Long Island), New York, she attended Oneonta State University in Oneonta, New York, and graduated with an elementary teaching degree. She taught kindergarten in Mount Kisco, New York for many years. She and her husband, Richard W. Henry, were married in Lynbrook, New York, in 1948. Upon retirement, she and her husband lived during winters in Longboat Key (Sarasota), Florida, and during the rest of the year in Madison and Lake Placid, New York. Mr. and Mrs. Henry traveled extensively throughout the world.

Val Henry was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 2004. She was devoted to and is survived by her three children: Elizabeth Helene Zoba of Tiburon, California, Joan Arlene Henry of Madison, Wisconsin, and William Richard Henry of Highland, New York. She is also survived by her brother, Oscar Wurtenberg of Louisville, Kentucky, 4 granddaughters: Abigail Helene (Zoba) Skidmore, Emily Elizabeth (Zoba) Maynard, Kristen Helene Kuecken, and Caroline Barbara Zoba; 1 grandson, Jonathan Richard Kuecken, and 3 great-granddaughters: Nancy Helene Skidmore, Selby Elizabeth Maynard and Charlotte Elizabeth Skidmore.

A private family gathering will be held at the Cress Funeral Home, Madison, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Dane County Humane Society of Madison, the Second Harvest Food bank of Southern Wisconsin or to a charity of choice.
