Velda Jean Marshall

Velda Jean Marshall, age 89, passed peacefully on August 12. The youngest of 6 siblings, Jean grew up on the family farm near Viola, WI. She married her high school sweetheart, Lester Marshall, in 1954, in a double wedding ceremony with his twin sister, Lois, and her husband, Marion Barto. Les and Jean spent much of their lives in Reedsburg where they raised their three children and ran a successful furniture business. They later settled in Verona, closer to their children, and were regulars around the family dinner table and card table. Jean was ever the fashion plate, loved sending greeting cards to loved ones near and far, and was a longstanding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran. She was a devoted grandmother to both her grandchildren and granddogs. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Schilling, son Brent Marshall (Beth), and son Bryan Marshall (Kristi); 7 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; a sister Virginia McCauley, sister-in-law, Lois Barto, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lester, her parents, William and Ruby Merry, four siblings, and one son-in-law Dan Schilling. The family would like to especially thank Lisa Aders, Jim Raab, the many CNAs, and the activities and facilities staff at Four Winds Memory Care for the years of care and love shown to Jeanie Beanie. A graveside service will be held at Fancy Creek Cemetery in Gillingham, WI on Tuesday, August 20 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to Agrace Hospice or Fancy Creek Cemetery in Jean's name.
