Vera R. Hanson, age 101, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. Vera was born in Mauston, WI on April 29, 1920 to William and Gertie (Hoile) Rose. She met Jerome (Bud) Hanson at a Big Band dance in 1935 and they were married January 21, 1937. She and Bud loved to dance and were married for 61 years until Bud’s passing in 1998. They had three children, Donna, Dianne and Harry.
Vera was a wonderful cook and among her many food industry-related jobs she worked for the Middleton/Cross Plains lunch program for 17 years. She also crocheted beautifully, enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports, especially the Badger men’s basketball games, was an excellent card player, and loved to go to the casino. Vera and Bud’s love of golf began in their early 50’s and for many years they spent their winters in Florida so they could golf year round.
Vera is survived by her children Dianne (Don) Rines and Harry (Nancy) Hanson, grandson Michael (Dana) Dehnert and granddaughters Kristin (Jessica) Dehnert, Tammy (Brian) Bartels, and Wendy (Ray) Andrew. She is further survived by seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, as well as her brother Robert (Dona) Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Donna, grandson Jeff Dehnert, and her siblings Lloyd (Bud) Rose, Mae Alexander, Margaret Curtis, Harry Rose, and Luella (Gret) Dobson.
We will miss her beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humor, and outgoing personality. Her family would like to thank the staff at The Waunakee Manor Nursing Home and Agrace HospiceCare for the excellent care she received.
A private celebration of Vera’s life will take place at a later date.
