Vern L. Garton

Stoughton- Vernon L. Garton, age 73, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation.  He was born on November 14, 1935, the son of Raymond and Geneva (Shanks) Garton.  Vern served four years in the U.S. Army.  For 40 years he drove Semi Tractor Trailers.  Vern enjoyed fishing, family cookouts, gardening, traveling, yard work and quiet times with his wife on the patio.  Vern married the love of his life, Judy Vike, on June 26, 1982.  Vern is survived by his wife, Judy; two children, Michael (Becky) Garton of Deerfield and Christine Carpenter of Boliver, MO; two step children, Jackie (Chuck) Kerns of Brooklyn and Orville Bauer Jr. of Oregon; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Duane (Jeri) Garton; two sisters, Beverly (Don) Blacksher and Glenda Balty; and many relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant granddaughter, Jessica.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect Street, Stoughton, with Rev. William Wineke officiating.  Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday.  Friends and family are invited to the Stoughton VFW for a luncheon following the services.  A special thank you to Dr. Kurtz and the staff of Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation.
