Verne E. Conder, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2008 at Oakwood Village West. Â He was born on June 2, 1924 the son of Verne A. and Julia (Echtner) Conder, in Surring, WI. Â Verne graduated from Shawano High School, and attended Lawrence University. Â He was united in marriage to Mary Zeratsky on February 5, 1951 In San Francisco, CA. Â Verne served his country and fellow man in the United States Navy in WWII, and also in Korea. Â He was assigned to the USS Kitkun Bay Support Air Craft Carrier. Â Verne lived his life in Shawano, San Francisco, Green Bay and most recently in Madison. Â He was self employed as an architect until his retirement in 2006. Â Verne was a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Green Bay Y's Men, and the Madison School and Recreation Dept. as a volunteer Pontoon Captain. Â His other interests and hobbies included downhill skiing, boating, Â fishing, camping, Â the Green Bay community theatre, Â and he also was a private pilot. Â Verne is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary, his daughters; Beth (Robert) Vorpahl, Bloomington, MN, Lynn (Steven) Lorton, Madison; son Paul (Catherine Schuetz) Conder, Green Bay, granddaughter; Stephanie Vorpahl, grandson; David Vorpahl, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maryan (Dale) Weifenbach, and nieces and nephews. Â He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, John. Â A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at RESURRECTION CHAPEL, OAKWOOD VILLAGE WEST, 6201 Mineral Point Rd., Madison, WI. Â The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in Verne's name to YMCA Camp U-NAH-LI-YA, 12101 Y Camp Rd, Surring WI, 54174, or Madison Community Foundation, Madison School Community Recreation, Attn: Pontoon Boats, 3802 Regent St., Madison, WI Â 53705. Â The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Village West for their loving and compassionate care.
