Viola Hanson

June 3, 1922 — November 16, 2010

Stoughton - After illnesses and disabilities plagued her for over thirty years, she finally succumbed to the pains and diseases frequently found in this mortal life on Tuesday, November 16, 2010.  She was born on June 3, 1922 in DeSmet, SD, the youngest of four children to Augusta and Aaron L. Showers.  Viola moved to Wisconsin with her mother and siblings and lived in the McFarland/Stoughton area in her early childhood.  After graduating from Stoughton High School she married Morris Hanson, who preceded her in death in August 1970.  For the better part of two decades Viola operated ""Hanson Cab Service"" and became known to many in Stoughton as the ""Cab Lady,"" an alias that many of the ""old timers"" in Stoughton still know her by.  She is survived by a daughter, Joni ( Wayne) Harvey; a son, Herbert; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Geneveive Hanson and Lucille Schroeder; and nieces and nephews.  Viola was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Luverne.  Memorial services will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Stoughton Baptist Church, corner of Highway B and Williams Drive, with Rev. Mark Weiss officiating.  Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon immediately following the services.  Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., Humane Society or to Skaalen Home.
