Madison- Virginia “Ginny” Bormett, 79 of Madison passed away peacefully on March 13th, in the wonderful care of hospice at Agrace in Fitchburg. Ginny was born in Elkhorn, WI to Annette (Sterken) and Abraham Keyzer, the middle of seven children. She graduated from Delavan-Darien high school, got a degree from Madison Business College, and later took classes at Edgewood College. Ginny was a true friend to many people and will be profoundly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
She married James “Jim” Bormett on June 10, 1966. Together they raised 3 daughters in Madison and instilled the importance of generosity, hard work, and education. She worked for many years at Cuna Mutual Insurance, starting in word processing and developing into computer programming.
Ginny was humble and delightful, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. She jumped at the chance to attend school and sporting events whenever possible. She was also considered the neighborhood grandma, greeting children with an open door and a warm, inviting smile. She shared her love of reading with elementary students at Van Hise Elementary School.
She was a longstanding member of her Midvale church community, and her faith was the foundation of her life. Profoundly impactful was her trip to the Holy Land, which deepened her spiritually and sprouted close-knit friendships. Ginny cared deeply about social justice and participated in the social ministry committee with her church family. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she loved walking in Owen park; playing card and word games such as Double-Deck Pinochle, Euchre, Scrabble, and Words-with-Friends; watching Jeopardy; spotting wildflowers; and reading. She enjoyed crocheting family heirlooms, creating gingerbread houses, and volunteering for the American Girl “hospital,” where she would fix dolls for children. Ginny relaxed by listening to classical music and enjoyed attending Concerts on the Square and American Players Theatre
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; sister Anne Haak; brothers-in-law Bernie Haak, Dick Nietfeldt, John Verdouw, Dick Bormett, and Dave Bormett. She is survived by her children Michele Bormett, Melanie (Patrick) Hewett, and Susan (James) Barrett; grandchildren Jack Bowden, Sam Bowden, Naomi Bowden, Noah Oviedo-Bormett, Kaia Barrett, and Bridger Barrett; siblings Karl (Barb) Keyzer, Barb Verdouw, Dorothy Nietfeldt, Bruce (Kris) Keyzer, and Stan (Debi) Keyzer; sisters-in-law Betty and Sharon Bormett; and a community of beloved friends.
