Virginia Mae Hansen, 96, long-time resident of Madison, Wisconsin passed away peacefully, September 30, 2022. Virginia was born on May 30, 1926 in Virginia, Minnesota to Claud and Ida Moore Brist.
Virginia graduated from Roseau High School in Roseau, Minnesota in 1944. After graduation, Virginia moved to Madison, Wisconsin and worked for Ray-O-Vac until after WWII and she was employed by Motor Vehicle for a number of years as a clerk. Virginia was also employed for 34 years by the University of Wisconsin Administration System up until she retired in 1989. After retirement, Virginia enjoyed a challenge working with numbers during income tax season as a Tax Preparer.
Virginia was a hard-working woman and always put a positive outlook on life and left an imprint on her family and everyone she met. She instilled strong family values in her children that they could carry on in their own families.
She enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren which always seemed to bring a smile to her face. Other than the children, Virginia had love for her dogs, Ollie, Magic, and Fresca and treated them like they were her own children.
In her spare time, she would work in the garden and do a lot of canning, play cards with family members, knitted and crocheted sweaters and blankets for everyone, and played bingo with her friends in town.
Survivors include 5 loving daughters, Linda (Duane) Dreher and Lesa Servent of Rhinelander, WI., Karla Piehl-Higgins of Antigo, WI, MaryEllen (Tim) Kerns of Waunakee, WI, and Luella Pierce of Ft. Myers, Fl.; 10 grandsons, Anthony Weyer, Tony Aufieri, Chad Hansen, Michael Bushee, Dylan Dreher, Travis McCann, and Chandler Servent of Wisconsin, Dustin Pierce and Michael Higgins of Florida and John Grab of Oregon; 7 granddaughters, Gina Starkey, Brooke Dreher, Kristi Neubauer, Laci Czaikowski of Wisconsin, Tammy Labelle and Danielle Pierce of Florida and Heather Higgins of New Jersey; 46 Great-Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grandchildren, and 3 siblings, Bennie Brist, Pat Block and Adeline Gustafson. Virginia is preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, Karl Hansen, son, Billy Aufieri, daughter, Virginia Kay Aufieri, grandson, Jason Chism, and grandson, Cory McCann; 6 brothers, Melvin Brist, Lemuel Brist, Edwin Brist, Sidney Brist, Claude Brist, and Baby Boy Brist; and 3 sisters, Evelyn Pauley, Ann Ham, and Beverly Fealy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Cress Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation hours for family and friends are from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Celebration of Life Service 11:00 a.m. Virginia will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park following service. Everyone is invited to lunch afterwards back at Cress Funeral and Cremation Service.
