Virginia Vieth Thompson

Virginia "Gigi" Thompson, of Stoughton, WI died on April 17, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born July 15, 1928 to Helen and Spencer Vieth of Ripon, WI. Gigi graduated from Ripon High School in 1946 and was a 1950 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She married Atty. Dale R. Thompson on Sept. 3, 1949. They resided in Madison and Middleton, WI throughout their married life. 

Gigi and Dale enjoyed various hobbies throughout their years together, including holding season tickets to Wisconsin football games, playing tennis, bike trips during their travels abroad, and taking daily walks. Gigi grew up vacationing at Green Lake and had always loved swimming, whether it was with her children and grandchildren in the community pool, during water aerobics classes at Harbor Athletic Club, or off the shores of her cherished winter retreat in Sarasota, FL.

Gigi was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Alpha Phi Sorority, Dane County Legal Auxiliary, Attic Angels and PEO Chapter V. She enjoyed her time as a volunteer gardener for Attic Angels, and many years of registering incoming UW students at the Red Gym. Gigi and Dale supported a variety of non-profit organizations in the community.

Her family will remember her as someone who was engaged, optimistic, and happy. Gigi always had a social event to look forward to on her calendar.

Her husband preceded her in death on February 20, 2014. She also survived her son (Jeffrey, Feb. 19, 2009) and daughter (Terri, July 20, 2015).

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara Thompson (Jeffrey), her four grandchildren: Rebecca Lentz (Thomas), Jinna Lusty, Jessica Bateman (Allen), and Brian Thompson (Diana) and her seven great grandchildren: Lucia and Ellen Lentz, Samuel and Evelyn Bateman, Michael Thompson, Brett Bartoszewicz and Jamieson Lusty.

A private family memorial service has been planned. It is suggested that memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Salvation Army or a charity of choice.
