Madison-Vivian (Chaya) W. Edelman, aged 90 passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012 as a result of advanced Parkinsons disease. She was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1921 to Abraham and Jean (Gittel Charna Rosensweig) Weiner and was a graduate of Overbrook High School. Vivian was married to Albert Edelman. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Bruskewitz (Town of Westport), and sons Jack Edelman (Miami, FL), and Barry (Vivian) Edelman (Richmond, VA), and grandchildren, Pamela Bruskewitz (Jacob) Scholz, Jason (Erin Fowler) Edelman, Daniel, and Laura Edelman, and her brother Sidney Weiner (New Bern, NC). She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Ethel Cohen.
She loved her grandchildren and would visit them whenever she could. Always interested in fashion, dress up was a favorite pastime with her grandaughters. As a lifetime member of Hadassah, she worked to raise money in the thrift shop--just the right place to find fashion treasures.
As a divorced mom with three children, Vivian worked hard to support her family but still found time to volunteer with the mentally ill at Friends Quaker Hospital in Philadelphia helping to wash and style hair. She helped to house people with mental illness so they could stretch their money and where they could share a kitchen and feel like they were part of a family.
Vivian's family would like to thank the staff of Hebron Oaks, Oakwood Village West whose kindness, caring, and good humor made "Bubby's" days bright. She loved to share conversation and Snickers with everyone who helped her through her long illness.
Graveside services and Jewish burial were held at Forest Hill Cemetery, in Madison, Sunday August, 26.
We would like to thank Chabad of Madison who has provided religious guidance and support to our family. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Chabad of Madison, 1722 Regent Street, Madison, WI 53726.
