Vivian I Richel

November 13, 1925 — September 9, 2008

Verona- Vivian I. Richel, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Rest Haven Health Care Center located in Verona.  She was born on November 13, 1925 in Gratiot, WI to Clarence & Elizabeth (McGlynn) Engebretson.  In 1946, Vivian married Edward Richel in Gratiot where they lived until moving to Burbank, IL in 1964. Mrs. Richel has been a resident of the Madison area for the past 10 years, the last three being spent at Rest Haven. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed reading.  Mrs. Richel is survived by her children, James (Ann) Richel, Marshfield;  Rev. Michael Richel, Montello; Edward Richel, Monroe; Robert (Patti) Richel, Belleville; Patrick (Maureen) Richel, Palos Heights, IL; Theresa Richel, Tinley Park, IL; and Mark (Kathy) Richel, Willowbrook, IL; 13 grandchildren,  8 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild; sister-in-law, Meribeth Engebretson, Forreston, IL; nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband, her parents, a brother, LaVerne and a sister, Carol and a step grandson Sgt. Joshua Brennan who was killed in Afghanistan preceded her in death.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gratiot with Father Michael Richel, Msgr. Daniel Ganshert and Father David Wanish presiding.  Burial will be held in the Gratiot City Cemetery.  Friends may call on the family on Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials can be directed to St. Coletta's of Jefferson, Catholic Charities Community Living Program in Montello or to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gratiot. The family would like to thank the staff at Rest Haven for their wonderful care of Mom and a special thanks to our sister-in-law, Patti, whose love and devotion to Mom's care will never be forgotten.
