Wai-Ming Lee

MADISON - Wai-Ming Lee, age 58, passed away at home on Monday, November 6, 2017. He was born in Hong Kong to Kan Lee and Ho Chu. He married Meei-Ju Chiou on December 30, 1984.
Wai-Ming completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the Department of Horticulture at the National Taiwan University. He moved to Madison, WI in 1985 to study Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and graduated with a PhD in 1991. He remained at the University of Wisconsin - Madison as a virologist until 2011. He then worked at Biological Mimetics, Inc. in Frederick, MD until he retired earlier this year.
Wai-Ming enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, taking photographs, gardening and biking. He had a wide variety of irises in his garden that he collected from all over Wisconsin, and biked every day on the Military Ridge State Trail--even in winter.
Wai-Ming is survived by his beloved wife Meei-Ju Chiou, his children Iris Lee and Jessie Lee, his mom Ho Chu, his siblings Siu Chun Maserati Lee, Wai Che Lee, Wai Man Lee, Siu Kuen Eva Lee, and Siu Yuk Blanche Lee, and his nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tue Nov 14, 2017 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd. Madison. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home on Tue.
