Walter H. “Wally” Ripp passed away on January 4, 2025, following a brave three-month battle from injuries sustained in a fall. He passed peacefully after being surrounded by his loving family.
Wally was born on May 16, 1936, to Chris and Irene (Statz) Ripp in Waunakee. He was educated by the sisters of St. Agnes at St. John's School before graduating from Waunakee High School in 1954.
Wally enlisted in the Army in November 1954, completing basic training in Missouri and artillery training in Arkansas before serving a year in Germany and eight months in California. After his discharge in 1956, he began his plumbing career as an apprentice under his brother-in-law Ray Carey, later becoming a journeyman plumber with Local 167. He worked for several shops before retiring in 1990.
Wally married Alberta Kalscheur in 1959. They were proud of their six children: Laura Taylor, William "Bill" Ripp, Theresa (Raymond) Nall, Linda (Brad) Warner, Maria "Mia" (Tod) Rocco, and “ Bonita "Bonnie" (Toby) Shucha. They were also blessed with nine grandchildren: Zack (Christina) and Dana Taylor, Cody (Hannah) Ripp, Mei Lin and Kailin Nall, TJ and Rachel Rocco, Callen “Cal” and Katherine “Kate” Shucha; and one greatgrandchild, Riley Taylor.
Wally found great joy in volunteering at St. Mary's Adult Day Care Center and the Colonial Club in Sun Prairie. He loved sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He particularly enjoyed playing euchre, along with softball, volleyball, and ping pong.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Brad Warner; his brothers Jerome, Edwin, and Thomas Ripp; and his sisters Doris Carey, Arlene Schmitz, and Irene Rose.
Wally is survived by his siblings Jeanette Dorman, Sally O'Malley, Leon (Mary) Ripp, Anita (Phil) Garcia, Maxine Wilson, and Edna (Chad) Resari.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Jan. 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church 209 South St. Waunakee. Friends may call at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home 5785 Hwy Q Waunakee on Sunday Jan. 12,2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
