Walter “Wally, Walt” Weber aged 71 of Sun Prairie passed away on Friday, September 9, 2022 following a short stay at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Madison. Walter was born on May 29, 1951 in Burg, Switzerland to Hans and Sofie Weber. In 1966, Hans and Sofie bought a dairy farm in the United States, and at the age of 15, Neillsville, WI became Wally’s home. He worked on the farm until he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1971 while still a citizen of Switzerland. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and served in the 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 321st Field Artillery Regiment, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Parachute Badge. He was honorably discharged on February 9, 1973.
After the Army, Wally was employed first at Harvestore and then at Boumatic for 30 years where he manufactured dairy farm equipment. Walter married the love of his life Pamela (Pam) Tauschek in Wisconsin Rapids, WI on September 03, 1988. They were married for 34 happy years and considered each other best friends. During their marriage, Wally and Pam unselfishly and lovingly fostered 19 children over a period of 10 years. Walt considered his role as a foster dad to be one of the most important and fulfilling of his life.
Wally was a wonderful man who was very caring and well-liked by all who knew him. He will be missed by his two brothers Hanspeter (Roberta) Weber of Kewaskum, WI and Ralph (Karen) Weber of Neillsville, WI. Wally will also be missed by his many sisters- and brothers-in-law: Patrick (Judy) Tauschek of Briese, IL; Linda Tauschek of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Jack (Kathy) Tauschek of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Mary (Al) Pierce of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Pete Van Beck of Tomah, WI; Jim (Claudia) Tauschek of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Jeff Tauschek of Manhattan, KS. Wally was predeceased by his mother and father, Sofie and Hans, his sister-in-law, Judy Van Beck, and his brother-in-law, Mike Tauschek. Wally is survived by his little wingman Bentley the Yorkie and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Wally was an avid sports fan; he idolized his favorite team, the Brewers, never missed a Packers game, and was a fan of all things Badgers. No one expected to talk to Wally during any of these sporting events. He loved to sit in his recliner with Bentley on his lap and do his crosswords and word puzzles. He enjoyed a mean game of scrabble. His favorite activity was taking Bentley on walks where he met dozens of his neighbors, all of whom have been very kind and generous following Wally’s passing. Wally was very interested in world history and current events; he loved spirited debates, but only with rational people. Alas, his friends can expect no more Trump gag gifts.
