Warren R. Peterson

Stoughton- Warren R. Peterson, age 89, died on October 31, 2009.  He was born on May 22, 1920 in the Town of Dunkirk.  Warren was the son of the late Elmer and Minnie (Gilbertson) Peterson.  He graduated from Stoughton High School.  Warren was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  He served as Staff Sergeant in the Army during WWII from 1941 to 1945 where he earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.   Warren married the former Dorothy E. Evenson on August 2, 1947.  He spent his working years as owner and operator of Peterson Cement Contractors, retiring in 1985.  Warren sponsored a team and bowled in the Wednesday Night Classic League for many years and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds on television.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.   Warren is survived by his four children, David (Karon) of Madison, Margo Reese of Madison, Susan (Dale) Stiklestad of Stoughton and Nancy (Dennis) Lee of Dane.  He is further survived by seven grandchildren, Erik (Cassey) Peterson, Nicole (Andre Ano) Peterson, Kevin and Brian Stiklestad, and Scott, Sarah and Mark Lee; three great granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Kortney and Megan; and brother-in-law, Leonard Swingen.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; a brother, Glenn; a son-in-law, Kenneth Reese; and two sisters-in-law, June Swingen and Jeanette Peterson.   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at First Lutheran Church, Stoughton, with Rev. Richard Halom officiating.  Burial, with Full Military Honors, will follow in Eastside Cemetery.  Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon in the church basement immediately following the burial.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service Wednesday.  The family would like to thank Willow Pointe of Stoughton and HospiceCare Inc. for their loving care over the past several months.  Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or to HospiceCare Inc.
