Wayne Grant

June 21, 1927 — November 29, 2016

WAYNE D. GRANT, 89 of Middleton, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 29, 2016, at Brookdale Middleton Stonefield, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Manitowoc, WI on June 21, 1927, the son of C. A. and Edna (Simonis) Grant. The family later moved to Madison where he attended school. Wayne enlisted in the Navy after his junior year in high school and spent time in Guam, being discharged in 1946. He later joined the Naval Reserves for several years where he completed courses to achieve his diploma through East High School, then attended the University of WI for two years. Wayne's entire career was spent with his father C. A. and brother Ron in the family's sign business, C.A. Grant & Sons Signs, Inc. of Madison and later Monona, WI, until retiring in 1992.

Wayne was united in marriage to Alma Albert on July 8, 1950, in Baraboo, WI. He was an active member of several bands throughout his life, playing the saxophone and clarinet in various dance bands, the ZOR Concert Band and Sax Sextet. Summers were spent playing with the ZOR Booster Band for numerous parades around the Madison area. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #325, Scottish Rites and the ZOR Shrine. He also was a life member of the West Side Businessmen's Assn. and a life member of Elks Lodge #410, where Wayne & Alma enjoyed spending much time socializing with their numerous friends.

Wayne and his wife Alma enjoyed downhill skiing, traveling to several sites in the western states and also to Europe on three occasions. After retirement they traveled to Arizona several times for extended visits with friends. They later settled in Phoenix and then the Sun Lakes community, where they spent the winter months, returning to Madison for the summers. In his later years, Wayne became a very accomplished water color artist. Their homes as well as their children's were filled with his many paintings. He was even asked to host art shows displaying his talent.

Surviving Wayne are his children, Carol (Dale) Webster of Astoria, OR, Janice Grant of Cross Plains, WI and Alan (Vicki) Grant of Gilbert, AZ, their daughter Tiffany (Will) Larson and great-grandchildren Kennedy Larson (8) and Noah Larson (5 ½ mo.) of Gilbert, AZ. He is also survived by a sister Beverly Edwards. Preceding him in death was his loving wife of over 64 years, Alma (Albert) Grant, his parents Clenton Avery (C.A.) and Edna Grant and in-laws Percy and Sarah Albert. Wayne was also preceded by his brother Ron Grant and sister Barbara Hohlstein. A Memorial Service may be planned for a later date.

Wayne was a loving husband and father, and a very caring and generous man. He will be missed greatly by his children and granddaughter Tiffany, whom he adored, and his many friends. Memorials may be made to the ZOR Shrine Temple, Shriners' Hospital for Children, c/o ZOR Temple, 575 ZOR Shrine Place, Madison, WI 53719, Agrace Hospice Care or Brookdale Middleton Stonefield.
