Mueller,  Wilferd  J.  Madison:  Wilferd  J. Mueller, age 91, died Friday, July 25, 2008  at Wynwood  Brookdale Senior Living in Madison after a long illness.  He was a letter carrier from 1946 to 1972, with his route being in the Westmorland area of Madison most of those years.  He was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Sauk City, the son of Herman and Pauline (Ganser) Mueller.  Wilferd graduated from Madison West High School in January 1934, the first of three generations of Muellers to go there.  He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Star Lake, WI, and enlisted in the Army in 1941.  He was a tech sergeant in the intelligence wing of the 286th Combat Engineers Battalion, which built bridges and served in France, Germany, and Austria in World War II.  The unit was one of the first to assist liberated inmates at the Landsberg Concentration Camp near Munich.  Wilferd was a 50-year member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish.   He married Florence Miller on May 28, 1946.  She preceded him in death on July 22, 2003.  Survivors are sons; Rick (Cary Liebl) and Tom (Maggie Menard-Mueller), five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Wilferd was preceded in death by brother Cecil, and sister Marian Russell.   Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI, with visitation from 9:30 am until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Madison, WI  53711, or Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish,   401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, WI  53705.   The family deeply thanks the staff of Wynwood and HospiceCare for their loving and respectful care. Â
