Mt. Horeb – William “Bill” Joseph Barry, age 80, of Daleville, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Bill was born on April 23, 1941, in Madison, Wis., the son of Thomas and Dorothea (Stormer) Barry.
Bill grew up in Madison and attended West High School (1958). After high school he joined the military. He was stationed in Germany while serving in the US Army from 1960-1963.
Bill was a consummate prankster in his youth. He loved to liberate pigeons from the research park and watermelons from the trains at the Madison station. He was fond of bringing his spoils home much to his mother, Dorothea’s, dismay.
Bill was a lover of fishing and hunting pheasants. His hunting dogs were his constant companions and brought him great joy. It was not unusual to see him driving around town sharing his morning breakfast or lunch with his best friend. Bill also participated in local and national hunting tournaments winning a national title with his Brittany, Boy Bullet.
When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, he was active in his church and enjoyed spending time with his family. Bill is survived by his children: Teresa Barry, Pat (Renee) Barry, Peggy (Dave) Hacker, and Thomas (Brenda) Barry; grandchildren: Brandon (Hayley), Dominic; Nicole (Adam), Anissa, Katie, Jenna; Slate, Blade, and Trista; and great-grandchild: Harper Rose. Bill is also survived by his siblings: Sharon (Don) Esser, Bonnie (Doug) Caparoon, and Barbara Page.
In the end, Bill died as he lived - - on his own terms. If you missed him, he’d likely say “I’m out fishing or chasing birds.”
