William R. Brauer

William R. Brauer, age 78, passed away on April 14, 2024 in Madison, Wisconsin. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he is survived by his wife, children, grandson, and siblings. He was wise, kind-hearted, sharp-witted, curious, and loving. He was well-loved and will be missed. 

Bill’s childhood was filled with love, support, and optimism. He was born a jokester and had a clever sense of humor. He loved playing in the alley with his brother, sister, and neighbors, swimming, listening to all types of music, and blasting on the trombone. He always said he had a great childhood with lots of love that set the pattern for his life.

After childhood, Bill got down to business by attending Marquette University and UW-Madison, where he completed his bachelor’s and medical degrees. He went on to become an accomplished radiologist, who was thoughtful in pursuing the best for his patients.

Bill’s love of music endured throughout his life, from playing the trombone with his high school marching band at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade to performing with local community and Latin jazz bands later in life. He was also an avid downhill skier, water skier, windsurfer, and Terrace goer.

While recovering from a ski injury, Bill met Sylvia, a beautiful and kind physical therapist. The couple married and had three children, a strong bond of love and trust, and countless adventures together. They loved spending time together as a family and going to events around town. Bill also enjoyed traveling to see to the sun during the winter months, skiing real mountains in Aspen, and visiting family and friends in Europe.

Bill always said his greatest accomplishment was his family. We were also lucky to have him, and he will live in our hearts forever. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Cress Funeral Service, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705. The visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, followed by the funeral service at 7 pm.
