William Butler

February 10, 1949 — June 13, 2016

Waunakee / Madison - William J. Butler, age 67, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on February 10, 1949 to William Butler and Irene (Wells) Butler King in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After living in Pennsylvania, his family moved to Chicago, then to Three Lakes, WI where he attended grade school, then to Madison, where he graduated from Edgewood High School, and continued schooling at UW La Crosse and UW Madison. Bill was a professional cab driver, having driven in several major cities throughout his career including: New Orleans, Boston, San Diego, the Twin Cities, Anchorage and Madison. He was a very avid reader, and a conversationalist on topics regarding: sports, history, music, current events and entertainment; and he enjoyed a great debate. Bill was a peaceful, easy going, unassuming, compassionate, gentle, unique and funny guy. Bear, Charley and Maya will greatly miss his treats, loving care and daily walks.

Bill is survived by his siblings Brian (Allana) Butler of Sterling, Alaska, Kevin Butler of Madison, and Maureen (Patrick) Maly of Waunakee; step-brothers, Michael King of Washington, Mass., and Richard (Sarah Brehm) King of Richland Center; step-sisters, Barb (Don) Hady of Sun Prairie and Rosemary (William Jones) King of Mesa, Arizona ; several nieces and nephews; and a great-niece and great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Butler and Irene Butler King; and step-father, Clarence King.

A private burial was held on Wednesday, June 15th at Resurrection Cemetery. A Celebration of William's Life will be planned in the near future.
