William Cummings

William C. Cummings, III, age 79, passed away on August 1, 2022 in Madison, WI as the result of a bike accident. William was riding his Mercedes Benz E-Bike which he loved! He was born in Janesville, WI on November 23, 1942 to William C. Cummings and Helen (Jeffris) Cummings. William was the oldest of four.

William grew up in Janesville, finishing high school in 1960. For college he attended Princeton and then entered the Army in 1965, during the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Hawaii on Oahu. He was honorably discharged in 1967. One of Will’s favorite trips in the last few years was going on the Badger Honor Flight to see the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, he had a wonderful time enjoying every minute of the trip.

While William was in the service in the 1960s he started to work with computers and continued working on computers, installing computers, providing computer support and consultation for the rest of his life. He was on his way to a computer consulting job when he had his accident.

In the fall of 2016 William was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (cancer). He required back surgery, chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant to stabilize the cancer. He really appreciated the care he was provided at UW Carbone Cancer Center and the VA Hospital in Madison, under the care of Dr. Natalie Callander. He also enjoyed the support of the Madison Chapter of Wisconsin Multiple Myeloma support group.

William is survived by Christina Gates, Stephen J. Cummings (Virginia), Anne Fredrich (Michael), a niece and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Helen Cummings.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Indian Lake County Park, 8183 WI-19, Cross Plains, WI 53528 on Sunday, October 9th from 1 to 3 p.m.
