POYNETTE/MADISON - William E. Flynn. On March 16, 2015, Dad went to his family and his well-deserved rest after a courageous battle with Emphysema, surrounded by the love and laughter of his children.
Bill was born, to a large Irish family, on September 4, 1935 in Highland, Wisconsin to the late William and Delia (McCarthy) Flynn, the youngest of 10 children. The family moved to Madison when he was 6.
He attended Blessed Sacrament and Edgewood High School, working as a custodian to pay his tuition. After graduating high school, Dad joined the army at age 17 and served two years. He then joined the Madison Police Department retiring in 1989. He loved his time as a motorcycle cop.
He married the love of his life, Millie (Krantz) Flynn at Queen of Peace on January 4, 1958. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Dad's smiling blue eyes and quick wit were never extinguished by the ravages of Emphysema.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, especially euchre, his beloved Labradors, sitting on the pier in the North woods with a can of beer and visiting Las Vegas. He was a wonderful husband and father providing unconditional love throughout his life.
He will be deeply missed by his children: Maureen (Mike) Huffer of Mission Hills, KS, Matthew (Tracy Becker) Flynn of Madison, and Marianne "Banny" (Doug) Statz of Poynette; grandchildren, Colin and Dana Huffer, William, Angelina, Briana, and Nicole Flynn, and Alyssa Statz; brother, Thomas (Betty) Flynn of Madison, brother-in-law, John Wacek of Madison; also, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Millie, and 8 siblings: Mike, Patricia, Dorothy, Alice, Edwina, Ann, Mary, and Theresa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 NOON at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison on Thursday, March 19, 2015 with Monsignor Kenneth Fiedler presiding. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
The family extends a special thank you to Kris and Kelly of Home Health United Hospice and Dave of Airgas.
A final toast to you Dad, "May you be in heaven a half an hour before the devil knows your dead..."
