William B. Halverson, age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday July 26, 2021, at Skaalen Home in Stoughton. He was born May 22, 1925, in Stoughton, the son of the late LeRoy and Lucretia Halverson. He married Elaine B. Nelson on November 1, 1947. William graduated from Stoughton High School and enlisted in the Navy during World War II, from 1944-1946. He belonged to the Old Time Fiddlers and Model A’s clubs. Farming and working at the Dane County Highway Department until he retired. Then began traveling with his wife Elaine, camping across the US. He loved working in his woods, driving tractors and working on his old cars. Playing guitar, singing Good Old Mountain Dew made his smile and laugh.
William is survived by his daughter Cindy (Phillip) Grunewald; grandson William R. Elsing; a great granddaughter Sheyenne; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine, son David, brother Robert and sister Lois.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday July 30, 2021, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W. Prospect St. Stoughton. Burial will follow at East Side Cemetery in Stoughton. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 700 County Hwy B. Stoughton, WI 53589.
