Madison - William L. Hauser, age 95, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 4, 2014. He was born on May 20, 1918 in Portsmouth, Iowa to the late William Ludwig Hauser and Minnie Hauser (McKeighan). William proudly served his country in World War 2, enlisting in 1942 and serving as a radio man and a cryptographer. Bill decoded the secret message that was sent when Roosevelt went to meet Stalin in Turan. Bill married Frances Ranyard on Dec. 22, 1946. Frances received her engagement ring in the mail when Bill was stationed in Europe, but they waited until after World War 2 to get married. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. Bill was a machinist at Ohio Medical Products (Omeda) for 35 years. In retirement, Bill and Frances were worldwide travelers. Bill also was a Zor Shriner for more than 50 years, as well as also being a member of the American Legion, Madison Elks Lodge, VFW, Masonic Lodge Hiram #50 and the Madison Bowling League.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers Lawrence and Lowell Hauser.
Survivors include his loving wife Frances, sister-in-law Luella, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends and relatives may call at Cress Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 8 for a visitation from 5-7 pm. Additional visitation will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 9 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am, with Pastor Carly Kuntz officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the funeral service at Sunset Memory Gardens.
