William Lee McCain

October 27, 1934 — February 13, 2009

McCain, William Stoughton- William Bill' McCain, age 74, passed away at Nazareth house in Stoughton on Friday, February 13, 2009.   He was born in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois on October 27, 1934, a son of Lee V. and Ethel F. (Fuiten) McCain.   He attended Mt. Pulaski High School and The University of Illinois, and served his country in the Naval Reserves.   Bill was united in marriage to Vera Frances Mercier on June 6, 1954 in Mt. Pulaski, where they lived until moving to Kenney, IL in 1961.   They moved again to Genoa, IL in 1966, Charles City, IA in 1968, and to Stoughton in 1974.   Bill farmed, and later worked for Kerr McGee as a sales representative for 13 years.   He was a member of the Christian Church in Mt. Pulaski.   Bill had many hobbies and enjoyed working with his hands.   He was active in fishing, deer hunting, woodworking, auto mechanics, RV-ing, genealogy, photography and cooking.   Bill is survived by his wife Vera, of Stoughton; two children, son, Dennis Lee (Kathy) McCain, of Prairie du Sac, and daughter, Cynthia Jean Mauldin, of Myrtle Beach, SC; a grandson, Drew Anthony Mauldin of Myrtle Beach; his mother, Ethel McCain of Mt. Pulaski; and by two brothers, Donald (Sandy) McCain, of Mt. Pulaski, and Jim (Michelle) McCain of Hillsboro, MO.   He was preceded in death by his father Lee McCain.   Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 4:00pm at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton with Chaplain David Brynelson officiating.   The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 pm until the time of services.      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.   Olson-Holzhuter-Cress 206 W Prospect Ave Stoughton 608-873-9244 www.CressFuneralService.com
