MADISON---William "Bill" L. Meyer age 93 passed away at Agrace Hospice Care on Thursday, May 25, 2017. He was born in Madison on May 16, 1924 to the late Edmund and Anna (Meier) Meyer. He is a World War II veteran having served 3 years, spending 21 months overseas, with the U.S. Army Medical Corp. He married Alice "Pete" Peterson on November 15, 1947. She preceded him in death on February 20, 1971.
Bill worked as a carpenter for the University of Wisconsin Hospital until his retirement in 1986. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with family, dancing, bowling, golfing and boxing.
Bill is survived by daughter Pam Meyer of Verona; sons, Mike (Theresa) of Madison, Matt (Bev) of Oregon, and Mark of Madison; 4 grandchildren, Mindy Meyer (Rick Ebrecht) of Seattle, WA, Alex (Meggie) Meyer of Crossroads, TX, Dwight Meyer of DeForest, and Eva Meyer of Madison; 6 great-grandchildren, Petra, Ellie, Aidan, Reese, Kendall and Griffin; sisters-in-law, Betty Burkeland, Dagna Doan, Marge Peterson, Clara Peterson, Joyce Peterson and Connie Peterson; brothers-in-law, Roy (LaVonne) Peterson and Carl Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Pat Bruns; son-in-law, Ernie Bruns; sister, Delores Schweitzer; brother, Bob Meyer; sisters-in-law, Tome Meyer and Shirley Peterson; brothers-in-law, Clem Schweitzer, Bob Peterson, Raymond Peterson, Earl Peterson, and Oscar Peterson, Donald Burkeland, and Jerry Doan; and nephew, Bob Schweitzer.
Bill's family thanks all his compassionate caregivers with special thanks to friend Rita Phelan.
A Celebration of Life and burial will be planned for this summer.
