William Newman

NEWMAN, WILLIAM H.
MADISON-William H. Newman, age 92, lifelong Madison area resident, passed away on June 6, 2017. He was born on May 2, 1925, the son of William A. and Rosely Jo (Wheeler) Newman. William enlisted in the Marine Corp and served in numerous locations throughout the Pacific Theater from 1943 through 1946. He married Iona "Onie" E. Weir in Madison on Nov. 25, 1946. "Uncle Bill", as he was warmly referred to by many, enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and especially playing cards with his many friends. If there was a game of Euchre or Sheepshead, you would find him picking with little or no trump. He retired in 1985 after 39 years of service at Oscar Mayer, but continued his service and dedication to the Marine Corp by participating in numerous military and veteran's charitable activities. He enjoyed a second career working at Kayser Automotive Group for 13 years from 1992 until 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Iona; and brothers, Robert, Dale, Dean, and Neil.

Funeral services for William will be held at CRESS FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, 3325 E. Washington Avenue, Madison on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 12 Noon with Pastor Amanda Stein officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 am until the time of services. Entombment with full military honors will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum on Monday, June 12, 2017, at 9:00 am.

The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place for their services during his stay at their assisted living facility. In addition, the family thanks Agrace HospiceCare for their support and caring staff.
