Madison - William E. O'Herrin, age 88, passed away on June 29, 2009. He was born on November 7, 1920 the son of Bernard & Elizabeth (Girling) O'Herrin. He was raised in Milwaukee, attended Gesu Grade School, West Division High School, Marquette and Milwaukee School of engineering. He was a WW II Marine veteran. He served with the 22nd Marines, a rifle regiment that made 3 assault landings in the south pacific. The assault landings were in the Marshall Islands and on Guam. He also served in Samoa, Pearl Harbor and Guadalcanal. He married Ann Newby at Gesu Catholic Church, Milwaukee in 1948. He retired from the Wisconsin Telephone Co (AT & T) were in his 34 years of service he held various jobs including being loaned out to Bell Labs in Murray Hill, N.J. where he worked on government circuits. He retired as a business office and community relations manager. As a volunteer he taught Catholic Christian doctrine. They retired to Florida and Bill was a volunteer docent at the Florida Museum located on the Campus of the University of Florida. He also volunteered in a soup kitchen. After 17 years they returned to Wisconsin and settled in Madison. In Madison, he volunteered at the Oakwood Nursing Home for 4 years. He was a member of St. Albert's The Great Catholic church, Telephone Pioneers, the 22nd Marine association and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He is survived by his beloved wife Ann and 4 children, Kathleen (Tom Linscott) of Oconomowoc, sons, Patrick X. (Amy) of Columbus, William G. (Mary) of Mineral Point and Sean M. of Madison; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison on Friday, July 3, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Terrence Connors officiating. A visitation will be held at Oakwood Village East on Friday, July 3, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bill's name to your favorite charity.
