Waunakee/ DeForest-William ""Bill"" E. Scheer age 88, died on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Parkside Assisted Living in DeForest, WI
He was born in Madison on July 15, 1922 to William and Anna (Byrne) Scheer.
Bill served in the Army Air Corps, and in 1940 he was stationed at Wheeler Field, Oahu, Hawaii, surviving the Pearl Harbor attack. He was honorably discharged in September of 1945, returning to Madison.
On May 17, 1947, he married Dorothy Becker.
Bill worked at Bordens Dairy and later was employed at Wisconsin Telephone, retiring after 29 years in l982.
Bill enjoyed golfing, traveling, and family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind nature, and his love of life.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; 6 children; William (Rachel), Donna (Jerry) Marx, Mary (Dennis) Lybeck, John (Anita), Deb (Dan) Ellingson, and David; 14 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and his sister Rosemary (Robert) Senne. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert; his sister Beverly; and a brother-in-law Robert Senne.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral in Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A private family burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial park in Madison.
