Madison - Wilma Edith McCormick Meyer, age 86 of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wedesday, September 28, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
Wilma was born in Mt. Hope, Wisconsin, on July 8, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Nichols) McCormick. Wilma grew up in Mt. Hope and graduated from Mt. Hope High School. She moved to Madison to attend Madison Business College where she met John Binius Meyer, her future husband. They were married on August 20, 1949, this 49 year union would last until his death on February 26, 1999.
Wilma was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she was a charter member, sang in the Chancel choir since May 1951 and volunteered to obtain greeters for over 10 years. She volunteered to feed the homeless at Luke House for 10 years. She was also a member of the Bethany United Women's Society. Her church was a source of countless friendships.
She retired from working for WI Dept of Agriculture and WI Dept of Transportation, Personnel Dept. after working for over 25 years. She enjoyed travel, especially to Florida and to Ireland. She was a charter member of the order of Eastern Star. She was an avid member of the exercise group at Westside Senior Center. She was a member of the Madison Civics Club. She was known for her delicious cooking and baking and especially in later years, enjoyed a chance to eat out. Wilma thoroughly enjoyed her friends, family and was especially proud of her four grandsons.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Meyer, Oregon and Gale Rundle (Mike), Janesville; her four much loved grandsons, Charles (CJ) Norwell, Madison, William Norwell (Brittany), Oregon, Bryan Rundle, Janesville and Justin Rundle, Milwaukee; her cousin, Keith Nichols, Mt. Hope; and her countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mrs. Robert Chamberlain; and her husband John B. Meyer.
She was a wonderful Wife, Mother and Grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services for Wilma will be held Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at BETHANY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 3910 Mineral Point Rd., Madison, WI 53705. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Memorials in Wilma's name may be gifted to Bethany United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.
