Winifred J. Luther

Stoughton- Winifred J. Luther, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010.  She was born in Waukesha on June 6, 1917, the daughter of Frederick and Minnie Holtz.  Winnie grew up in Waukesha and graduated from Waukesha High School in 1935.  She attended the School of Cosmetology in Milwaukee.  Winnie married Ray ""Jack"" Luther 72 years ago on February 15th.  They continued to live in Waukesha until moving to Stoughton in 1965.  Upon their retirement, Winnie and Jack spent their summers at their cottage in Wild Rose until moving to Stoughton Vennevoll Retirement Community in 1986.  For 26 years they spent their winters in Florida.  Winnie loved life and displayed that in her many ways of sharing what she and Jack had.  Her straightforward style and positive attitude made being around her such a joy.  For those who knew Winnie and how kind she was, think of it as a tribute to her the next time you do your act of kindness.  Winnie is survived by her husband, Jack; their children, Tom (Sandy) Luther, Dick (Kay) Luther and Mary (Gary) Meloy; grandchildren, Craig (Sue) Luther, Leah (Doug) Maurer, Robyn Marcoux, Rod (Cassey) Luther, Patric (Tia) Meloy, Colleen (Kevin) Meloy, Mike (Mandy) Meloy; and 16 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Holtz; and sisters, Mildred Wandschneider and Bernice Schliecker.  At Winifred's request there will be a private family memorial service at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha.  The family extends a special thank you to the dedicated staff of the Riverwalk Unit at Skaalen Home and HospiceCare Inc.
