Yury Nikolayevich Lashin, 90, formerly of Madison, passed away at Beaver Dam Health Care Center in Beaver Dam, WI at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 2. Yury was born in Moscow, Russia on November 10, 1934 to the late Nikolay Lashin and Valentina Fedorova.
Yury was preceded in death in 2012 by his loving wife of 52 years, Vera and his dear cousin Viktor Klamm.
He is survived by his daughter, Svetlana Gerdes; his son-in-law Michael Gerdes; and his two grand-daughters, Sophia Gerdes-Benhousni (Youness), and Katherine Golding (Ryan).
Yury was an accomplished automotive engineer, and an avid fisherman. He loved nature and the outdoors, often seeking escapes from the city. Whenever possible, he and a group of friends embarked on extended adventures, spending weeks backpacking, canoeing, sailing, fishing, and camping.
Yury and Vera were especially proud to have hosted their young granddaughters for annual summer visits to Moscow, during which they passed along their language and culture. They emigrated to the United States in December 2011.
